Frequently Asked Questions
Wheel Spacers
-
What thickness are the spacers?
The spacers are designed to mount up standard width 7" wheels with the
Honda bolt pattern (4x100) and an offset of between +36 and +40mm. They'll
located your new wheel in the same centerline as your old wheels so your
bearing loads remain aligned and track width centerline the same.
-
What if I want my wheels pushed out for a wider stance and/or would like
to fit wider wheels than 7"? I know other Z owners have fit up to 10" wide
rims with coilovers and flares on their cars!
Our typical Z to Honda adaptor is only one option. We can easily make
custom adaptors to suit your specific desires for both wheel specification
and offset location.
For custom specification adaptors, it's best if you
carefully measure up your existing clearances with your present wheel and
tire combination. You can then use that valuable information to calculate
what sizes you may be able to fit. Z cars vary for clearances and even on
the same car you may find 3/8" difference from one side to another so it's
always a good step to measure up your car.
Take your measured clearances
and then use this aid to see what might fit in your fenderwells:

Keep in mind that your
choice of specific tire can affect clearance as well. A 225/50/16 Firehawk
SZ50EP is narrower in treadwidth than a 225/50/16 of most other
manufacturers, and up to an inch between some. Good wheel and tire shops
will fit up various combos on your car to verify fitments.
-
Is the use of wheel spacers hard on your wheel bearings with the
different offset?
Wheel adapters used with positive offset wheels do not put any extra
strain on the wheel bearings because you are maintaining the wheel center
line as originally designed. The center of force as it relates to the
bearing is the same as a factory wheel.
If you were to add spacers to a stock wheel or come up with a wheel and
adapter combination that moves the center line of the wheel further out
than original, then you will have extra load on the bearing. Z cars have
been used with various spacer and wheel combinations for years sucessfully.
The bearings and spindle are quite durable and when combined with well
engineered and properly machined adaptors you can enjoy a great combination.
